The Daredevil Christopher Wright

Hailing from the northwoods of Wisconsin (Eau Claire to be precise), the indie-folk-rock trio The Daredevil Christopher Wright weathered through a late morning snowstorm to get to our studio – just a stone’s throw into Illinois from the southeast border of their homestate – for this engaging session. The brothers Sunde (Jon on guitars & vocals and Jason on bass, keys and vocals), along with drummer Jesse Edgington rounding out the threesome, turned in four great numbers from their forthcoming full-length effort, In Deference to a Broken Back (set for a Spring release through Amble Down Records). Despite the fact that some of these songs may deal with topics such as loss (the lovely “Stewardess”) and terminal illness (“A Conversation About Cancer”) the musical tone comes off much more joyous and positive (most notably on the latter song, which wonderfully marries the eccentricities of indie-pop with a decidedly Milwaukee-flavored polka rhythm).

The threesome also delivered the intricate folk sonnet and band namesake “The Daredevil Christopher Wright,” along with the beautiful number “The East Coast,” complete with rich harmonies, fine acoustic playing and, yes, even the obligatory whistling of the song’s melody prevalent in so many indie songs today.

Despite pulling influences from a number of age-old and modern music touchstones, the method in which The Daredevil Christopher Wright infuse them together is ultimately a unique and rewarding musical experience. One you can hear for yourself with these four exclusive studio recordings.
